Schools
A new
elementary school—Bethke Elementary—being built within
the Timnath Ranch Subdivision. It will open in fall
2008. Junior High students in our neighborhood attend
Preston Junior High and High School students go to
Fossil Ridge. All of these schools are in the
well-regarded and highly desirable Poudre School
District.
Bethke Elementary School
Having a world-class neighborhood school has always been
one of our top requirements. Timnath Ranch was designed
and built around the newest school in the Poudre School
District—Bethke Elementary School.
Opening in fall 2008,
Bethke Elementary School will be a core knowledge
school. Core knowledge supports a grade-by-grade core of
common learning to ensure a sound and fair elementary
education for all students. The decision to create a
core knowledge curriculum at Bethke was determined after
a series of parent/teacher/community meetings.
In keeping with its
connection to the community and to the environment,
Bethke Elementary will be one of the first schools
certified green under the U.S. Green Building Council's
Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED)
program. Poudre School District officials are submitting
paperwork and using green building techniques to certify
Bethke with a LEED gold certification, and make it 30%
more energy efficient than other elementary schools.
Bethke connects with
the environment and provides students with a unique
learning opportunity—an outdoor classroom. This
classroom will provide opportunities to learn about the
environment in an outdoor setting.
Ann Alfonso, principal
at O'Dea Elementary, will be the principal at Bethke
Elementary. Ms. Alfonso has been a principal for five
years, served two years as an assistant principal, and
taught for 10 years. After graduating with honors from
the University of Wisconsin-Eau Clair with an
undergraduate degree in elementary education, she earned
a master's degree in educational leadership from
Northern Arizona University.

Preston Junior High
Preston has nurtured a true partnership among its
students, parents, and staff. The Preston learning
environment values relationships, relevancy, and rigor.
All programs, core academics, and electives such as
music, art, drama, and athletics are important and are
considered a significant aspect of learning.
The Preston staff seeks
to challenge students academically through the rigor
included in each class. Additional academic challenges
are offered through accelerated math offerings;
pre-advanced placement English, social studies, and
science classes; and challenging electives.
Preston has a modified
block schedule in which students have a total of eight
classes. Students attend all eight classes on Mondays,
odd-period classes on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and
even-period classes on Wednesdays and Fridays.

Fossil Ridge High
School
Fossil Ridge High School is the newest of four
comprehensive high schools in the Fort Collins
community. It has a unique school-within-a-school
concept, which divides the building into three smaller
teaching houses. It creates the intimacy of a
small-school environment with the advantages of a large
school’s diverse curriculum and opportunities.
Classes are available
to meet a full range of student needs including those
with special interests, those seeking advanced-level
opportunities, and those with special needs. Fossil
Ridge offers extensive fine arts and music programs, as
well as outstanding science and math opportunities.
The latest technology
is available to students through six general computer
labs, with one mobile lab in each of the three wings. A
fully equipped television studio is available, with the
ability to broadcast cable TV and closed-circuit
programming throughout the building or district wide.
